The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued high wind warnings for Cuyahoga County from 4 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Sunday. Winds could reach gusts up to 50 mph at times.

Cleveland Public Power will monitor weather conditions to ensure we are prepared and have scheduled additional support for the weekend.

As the temperatures drop and winds pick up, the safety of our crews and customers is our greatest concern. Our crews operate as quickly as possible to maintain power service to our customers while ensuring the safety of each crew.

As CPP prepares for the winter storm, we encourage our customers to prepare for any problems that might arise. Here are things you can do before the storm:

  • Charge all electronic devices
  • Have a portable charger available
  • Locate your flashlights and batteries
  • Have blankets near by
  • Have snacks available

In the event of an outage, keep these things in mind:

  • Check to see if CPP is already aware of the outage by calling 216-664-3156 and listen carefully to the message. If you hear your neighborhood, please hang up because we are aware your power is out. If you do not hear your neighborhood, please be patient and give the dispatcher your address.
  • Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to all of our customers.
  • Try to limit the amount of times you open your refrigerator (The USDA reports your refrigerator will keep food safe for up to four (4) hours during a power outage.)
  • If the doors stay closed your freezer will keep food safe for 48 hours if it is full, 24 hours in a half-full freezer
  • Keep an eye on your thermostat and if it drops below 60°, you may want to seek shelter elsewhere.
  • Unplug all major appliances during a power outage
